This might be one of the most shocking things I've ever seen in a cold case. Days after Alberta Jones' murder,
detectives lifted fingerprints from her rental car. These prints were everything, their best evidence in this
case, especially by 1965 standards. Then one detective came into work and discovered something unbelievable. The
fingerprint cards were not in the envelope where they should have been. They were just gone. After searching the
lab, he found them in the trash. Someone had literally thrown them away, and not all of them were recovered. The
most important fingerprints weren't even found in the trash and still have never
been found to this day. And there were no photos taken of the prints, no negatives, no backup of any kind.
They're just gone. But nobody seems to have seriously investigated why the evidence disappeared. Is throwing away
evidence in this case a mistake, incompetence, or something intentional?

Days after Alberta O. Jones was murdered, investigators lifted fingerprints from her rental car. In 1965, those prints represented some of the strongest evidence in the case.

Then something unbelievable happened. A detective discovered the fingerprint cards were missing from where they had been stored. After searching, some were found in the trash. Others, including some of the most important prints, were never recovered.

No photographs, negatives, or backup copies existed. Decades later, questions remain about how critical evidence disappeared and why no one seems to have fully explained what happened.
