how sick nasty audible is we're going to discuss the title desperate deadly widows uh it's actually the sequel to
Rich Young widows so definitely go listen to that first uh it's another wonderful audible exclusive but today
we're focusing on the sequel desperate deadly widows I loved this title this was made for me I think it was so good
it's so fun I loved it it was a lot of fun I was I was a big fan and it was written actually by four authors uh
Kimberly Bell Lane Fargo Kate hollahan and Vanessa Lily and each of them wrote for a different character this blue my
mind Isn't that cool I did not know that isn't that amazing that is very cool and
then you now that I'm thinking about it you could actually pick up on it they're
so distinct the characters but it's interesting though because the tone of the whole book overall is like very so
cohesive uniform and cohesive yeah that's the thing you cuz I can't imagine writing with three other people like
that must I have no idea how these women did this and did it so well Bravo because honestly it sounds so it sounds
like such a task to undertake cuz you all have to be on the same page right you all have to be open to feedback to
Xing together it needs to come out cohesive and like it was written in one you know like I wonder if they like lock
themselves in a room or like a house for a few months and then yeah they kind of
together yeah they first of all they wrote this I think they said in 12 weeks right that wow my brain does not wrap
around that fact and now I'm like kicking myself being like right [ __ ] I'm like what are you
doing well instead instead of locking themselves in a house they had Zoom meetings where so they would all like
write their character Kim wrote Camille Lane wrote Meredith Kate wrote Justine and Vanessa wrote Crystal and then
obviously like as you're listen listening there's pieces where like Camille will say something in Meredith's
voice so they would give each other feedback and be like they would say it this way or that way so they had to like
lock themselves in these Zoom meetings I think they said they had like hours long
Zoom meetings and they just kind of like got everything perfect and like in the right voices I I love that I that's like
the ultimate collaboration really is and they nailed it that's the thing like this could have gone way worse oh yeah
group project sidew this could have gone into a different galaxy we would be like
wao ladies but this I'm like whoa ladies like this is so good it's a good sick nasty I wish you guys could see her face
she went from like this angry scowl like ladies to all of a sudden like w ladies
like so excited yeah and that's how I describe this is whoa lady thumbs two thumbs up four thumbs up yeah there you
go and if you're listening or if you already have listened you also know how incredible The Voice actresses are and
the voices are so perfect for each character they're what you picture when you like like it's just like it makes
sense oh 100% I have their like I have them imaged out in my mind completely yep crystal is my favorite I'm obsessed
with her she's my favorite character but also my favorite voice the voice was amazing like this Italian mobster woman
just like like straight shooter yes I love her she is performed by Dena Pearlman uh Carissa vaker performs
Camille Ariel Blake performs Justine and Helen laser performs Meredith so were you guys favorites of Crystal or did you
have a different favorite I really liked Camille I thought cam was cool I thought
she was like when I first started listening to her I'm like I don't think I like her character so much but I just
found her to be so warm as the book went on and she's smart and she she's like Unapologetic about who she was the
choices that she made but she was also very kind I feel like she grew a lot throughout the book cuz in the fir in
the beginning I was like oh exactly exactly then toward the end I was like you get it like this experience
made you kind of like flourish a little bit gross that's that's kind of how I felt I love Crystal was just hilarious
and awesome right I thought all of them were great in their own right and but it
was Camille that I was like I love her because of her intense flawed way about her you know what I mean like her flaws
and how she like kind of overcomes some of them and works through some of them and is Unapologetic for some of them I
was like I love that like that's a character love yes and I love that she was like a a ladyes lady like she was
just powered to her friends all the way through and she could have been set up as something
totally different like total other way and she wasn't like that's that was what was cool and even the way that like
Justine and her were still friends after everything happened and like worked their way through it you know like
that's girls being girls right there we love it and Justine had moments for me that were really I was like hell yeah
Justine yeah cuz there's one in particular that stands out to me it's when um when they're talking I think in
the law firm and she says that she stands up when crystal is talking to her because she says even if she's talking
down to her she's going to have to look up and I was like hell yeah Justin literally as I was listening to that I
was like Elena is going to love that I loved it it's just got like bad [ __ ] energy
yeah mess with me she that was a mic drop moment 100% I love a woman who just is like not
afraid to be herself yeah yes and I feel like none of them are like even this is
just like such a little moment but when Crystal realizes that Chris that Christopher Columbus is such an [ __ ]
that's just like such a funny moment for her and she's like damn he sucked when she tries to use it as like
a what like that that's a day yeah and Aiden's like try again try even as simple as like her
telling everybody that like my son is a like yeah oh I I don't know what language she used but she's like he's
stupid he's stup he's an idiot and she loved him anyways but she's like he's stupid she's just so real she really is
and one of the mo the other moment I was thinking of with Crystal actually is um
when Meredith and cry still go to find Destiny and they're going to go try to get information from her and they find
her at the strip club and Meredith chases her off stage to interrogator and the crowd is all pissed off and then
Crystal gets on stage and everyone starts calling her like oh hey may West like why don't you and she does like a
full on routine and I was like yes like lawyer with a side job she knew it was important she saw the in here she's like
you go do your thing I will entertain these people I will distract we all got to play a part exactly it was so good
there's so many moments like that too that like I feel like maybe we haven't all had like that specific moment with
our friends but it's maybe not that specific one not that one but it's like let me cover for you like I got this I
love that but that's what's really special about this friendship I they all I mean apart from that little thing with
Crystal and Justine yes which they resolved yeah but like I thought it was really nice that they all had each
other's backs the entire time they were all looking out for each other they were
all like worried about okay I'm going Meredith even when she went into the when she went to jail she's like we're
not bringing anybody else in here like we're not roping any of these other girls in here right and you could feel
that they all had each other's backs the entire time yeah even if it was like reluctant they still do it yes yes
exactly which is so real too like sometimes you're like I love you so much and like I really don't don't want to do
this for you but I will you're like what the [ __ ] manam exactly why are you making this Choice okay let's we'll
discuss after I save your butt yeah it's the CL it's like the town whose car we taken who car we Tak it's just okay who
car we taking exactly you know tell me the details I also feel like the story as a whole had like almost have you guys
watched Desperate Housewives yes I I I still haven't finished it I started it like last year and I'm in like this
weird break where I'm like not watching anymore and I need to pick it up and this title made me want to start it
again oh it totally has that Vibe I never watched that but I've seen like bits and pieces
of it and it definitely I watch and watched it and watched it and watched it some more I watched way too much of that
show it's so good and I feel like the dynamic between the wives in Desperate Housewives is very similar to the
dynamic here yeah that's interesting well so I I I actually thought of the Desperate Housewives as well when I was
listening to this title and I think that I I felt even more of a c and even more
of like a family feel with these women and that's one thing that Drew me into the book even more yeah like they really
felt like they were family yeah and they're just like badass yeah and that's the thing I love the most is just how
capable they were but also all flawed like they are real women that you know that you've known that you've loved that
you hated that you've you know like it's nice to see that they aren't portrayed as like they're like boss [ __ ] for
sure all of them 100% but they're not the kind that are going to step on the backs of other women to get where they
think they can go by doing that 100% like I don't like reading about the kind of women who tell you like with pride
that like oh I don't even know my employees names who gives a [ __ ] you know what I mean like they're just like
that's the kind of person I am like I don't I don't like those kind that like [ __ ] those kind of people but I want to
know these women more and like I feel like they came out as like so real and they have each other's backs and I'm
like I would I want to hang out with you let's go out when those letters came out
yes I was like tearing up for Meredith like can you imagine having people in your life that would do this for you
that means that you are a fantastic human being exactly even though this is this is a job that you're doing that I
wouldn't necessarily have chosen for myself yeah doesn't matter you're Unapologetic about it and you are doing
it to the best of your abilities with kindest of intentions yes that's the thing and I love reading about that like
that's I was like yes thank you for giving us those kind of like strong powerful women [ __ ] each other over
so so so different so different and I feel like that's what makes up the friend group cuz even like in my friend
group like I can point to like who's the Meredith who's the Camille who's the this one and it makes sense for like it
translates into real life too this is like sex in the city all over it really is it really is real life yeah and like
a like a a grittier Sex in the City you know little bit the Rhode Island version
the Rhode Island the Providence R Island I was going to say make it Providence well that's the thing it is gritty
because obviously the entire story kicks off with the murder of the Moa the mayor
of the town like that's pretty intense yeah and you can tell pretty quickly that our widows don't have anything to
do with the actual murder itself like they're wrapped up in it wrong place wrong time yeah very much I feel like
personally and especially obviously you guys are listening to orbid me and Elena
I feel like we're pretty good at like predicting who a killer is like did you know no that's what I was going to say
usually I do a good job of figuring it out but I couldn't like they did a good job with the red herrings because I'd be
like oh maybe it's this person but then it would completely turn me around at what point did you realize who the
murderer was and we won't spoil who it is oh we're not no shoot I was about um at what point
did I realize who it was um probably during that kiss that makes sense during the kiss
was when I realized what was happening yeah they were on my radar yeah the person who it was but I was not they
were not like the final in my mind well and what I like about it is like it's very intricate you know like technically
there's a cple it's a a complex web that weed and it's like I said like the red herrings
along the way like you start to point to one person and then you point to another
and it's like everybody had their piece in it yeah yeah it's true 100% one thing
that that like can tip you off though if you like cuz they did a really good job
at planting little Clues along the way that you don't know or don't think are going to come back and then when they
come back at the end you're like oh [ __ ] that's that person like the death threats the notes that were coming to
Mayor Tom yes there's a specific thing in those death threats comes back at the end that someone or in all the notes and
then somebody says it towards the end and you're like wait a second and it literally comes down to like one word
yep did you call me that's right it's like and that's like skilled writing AB skilled Thriller mystery writing is to
be able to carry that and have it hit the way that this one hit you're like oh [ __ ] right cuz sometimes you're like
wait what like you heard that before but they made it enough where you remembered
it and it was such a specific thing that you wouldn't hear it in everyday exactly
sentences CU When we got to the end and like that whole little thing happened I was like oh like oh [ __ ] I remember that
like it came back yeah as far as themes I feel like we obviously like kind of touched on the theme of we see these
women come together they lift each other up I feel like one of the themes obviously is like Sisterhood even
through conflict and obviously these women are bonded through tra tragedy if you listen to the first title anything
else you guys thought of theme wise I mean one of the themes that was super important in this story is the fight
around indigenous rights for sure that's huge um it's really prevalent in this and like in the real world to be honest
to see people being so callous and cold about building over literal sacred land yeah yeah and people are just offering
up and in in the title people are just offering up dollar signs to try and buy this land up and then they're getting
upset or offended or pissed when the members of the community don't want to just like take the deal to develop over
their ancestors bodies it's like uh yeah money money's not going to make me do that thanks so absolutely thanks for
asking yeah thanks so much like wow that was so nice of you and I think they touched upon it really well and I mean
the whole damn and it's real cuz the whole damn Providence Place Mall is built on sacred land like it's real is
nuts and in real life and one of the authors Vanessa Lily is actually an indigenous woman so she I love that she
wrote that in because of it and she did such a good job with it and conversation
the conversation that Aiden and um Camille had yes like it was so real and it comes from like a real place you know
in an informed place because she can speak on it and she partnered with members of the community to make sure
that all the information in the throughout the title was accurate and coming from like a real accurate place
which is really cool it makes it really it's got like a special touch on it like
does it adds something to it and like you were saying with the like Camille and Aiden conversation I even feel like
that's more of Camille's growth like throughout the book you know that softness came out a lot it really did
but the fact that she was able to pick up on it I said like I I said to myself like that
speaks mountains yeah to her character that she was able to pick up on it even though she was like she came in guns
blazing like who do I have to kill to get myself free you know and he was soft towards her and she was soft towards him
I thought that was really special yeah it's like they brought it out in each other yeah they're sweet another one of
the themes that I thought was amazing was just watching these amazing women these empowered women stand up for
themselves yes yes big time like no I'm not going to lay down because you all have money and you guys are throwing
your money at this problem these are solid values that we are going to stand by we're not going to let you abuse this
these people we're not going to let you abuse us just because you have more money than we do we're not going to be
your scapegoats yeah exactly I loved that it was definitely like you're reading it and you're like yeah this is
like a cautionary tale about Society yes absolutely how sometimes rich people are
just wild as [ __ ] yeah you know but I love also that it all takes place in the
80s I know and that's a fun part of this whole thing it's funny because there's little bits where you're like oh yeah
this is the0 but it doesn't feel dated no but I forgot that that was the case and when Camille goes up to the yacht I
was like why didn't she just pull out her phone like what she doing oh that's why
like she's lucky if she has a pager exactly truly but I swear I was thinking to myself like these girls like they're
smart but but damn use a cell pH where's your phone at they didn't have any quarters with them they use a pay phone
right that the couple parts with the yacht that it got so intense I was like we're not we won't spoil that but that's
a that's a key point in the story wait to you get there what's going to happen yeah okay so let's play a couple little
games cuz you know at morbid we love a game we love a game I feel like we should take the four characters and like
almost pretend like we're casting a film we cast each one love that that so let's
start with Crystal do you want me to start or do you want to start Elena um you can start okay I feel like I see
Crystal as Drea De I think is how you say it cuz she gives me Adriana Las serva vibes from The Sopranos oh yeah
right like the curly hair and I could even see her like doing up the accent like she did in sopran like Christopher
I could Christopher Christoper I could see Marissa to I just feel like she's she would be
perfect I I think I agree with that yeah yeah I could definitely do that okay how
about Meredith m Meredith I think and actually like Mikey came up with this one and I
think it's I was like yep that's it you checked Emmy rossom oh from yeah she's cuz she's got that like
Scrappy yeah very gritty hard but she's this like beautiful just like take no [ __ ] girl like I just love her she would
be perfect I said Gillian Jacobs and I was thinking of the same thing like Scrappy I don't know if you guys have
watched love her character micke you I feel like you would love it it's she was in community too in community community
and she kind of plays that like badass girl who like once you kind of like break down the wall does have that
softer Side Y I could very much see it I see Jennifer kulage oh my God I would love that that would be amazing she
would be my my Meredith that would be amazing you do good Jennifer cool now I want to see this with this movie
with yes I'm down and as a nice segue see um oh gosh Reese Witherspoon as Camille oh oh now I wish
I thought of that that's a good one I agree with that even more than the pick that I made I thought um Anya Taylor joy
and that was my pick too Anya Taylor Joy yeah we agreed on that but now I'm kind
of thinking Reese Witherspoon oh gosh I I would kill to see re Rees Witherspoon in that yeah I would love to see Anya
Taylor Joy too I think she's um she's really good in like the menu and what was it last night in SoHo yeah last
night in SoHo uh she's good in that kind of like Slinky like I need to get the information I need kind of thing or get
what I need out of this situation she's really good at that kind of role she's got that like old Hollywood kind of face
and like and simplicity but like so beautiful yeah but also like you were saying like what like has the vibe of we
can get [ __ ] done oh yeah you know absolutely but yeah Reese Witherspoon is also a good one I'm tied now yeah and
then what about Justine what did you guys think for Justine I said uh Tessa Thompson she's been in a few things if
you look her up I just I don't she just like I could see her yeah she has falit energy I think one of the things I knew
her from and I was like why do I know this movie like why did I it's from like 201 12 or something what is it it's
murder on the 13th floor I don't know if I've seen that and it's one of those like you know she's a nanny for a family
and she's having an affair with the father and the and the mom is like the wife is like this awful human being and
they don't even love each other oh great kind of thing it's this whole thing and
there's like you know a murder happen it's kind of like it's got these Vibes of like a murder mystery to it yeah but
she's really good and she's like really likable and has like a badass Edge to her but it's like a softer badass Edge
to her okay like a really capable kind of she just reminds me of it I see that yeah I like that I could see her I said
Zena for like pretty much all the same reasons yes like I think her character in Euphoria and like she like she goes
through a lot of hard times in Euphoria if you've watched it but then you kind of see her character soften toward the
ends of the season and I feel like that's the same thing for Justine oh yeah I could see that mine is a little
controversial that's okay Megan Markle Megan marle no I like that actually that's an interesting one I mean I just
loved her in suits yeah and I just feel like she had this hard Edge she had this
soft Edge she got [ __ ] done yeah Su she's appar legal so boom she already has the experience yeah she had that
like grit to climb but also like she was just super soft at times too yeah and I
feel like that's a key theme among like all these four women like they well rounded yeah they really are like they
have all of them have that hard Edge but all of them have their moments of softness they're multifaceted like
diamonds well I feel like that's just like woman women that's Womanhood exactly that's girlhood bab yes yes I
love that okay now how about a most likely to let's go so most likely to win Survivor ooh okay I got to go Crystal I
got to go Crystal too yeah she's so Scrappy I would say cryst maybe Meredith though yeah Meredith is going to be one
of my I feel like she could get it done she would make the alliances that she needed to make to get with kindness yeah
and then she'd get that like final jury vote I feel like maybe yeah she's got that like that you know will yeah will
she's like she's a yeah I think Meredith is and think about like all the creeps that she's had to like deal with where
she had think of ways around situations that's actually such a good point whereas like Crystal was like you when
you heard the thoughts in her head you could tell that there was a lot of insecurity there like oh is what he's
saying true a lot of Doubt yeah there's a lot of self-doubt whereas with Meredith I never felt that there was
that self-doubt she's like mm that's what I sit down little man that's a really good point was was one of my
first thoughts and the scrappiness of Crystal might piss off the other contestants and then they might they
might yeah that's a really good point yeah all right most likely to be the maid of honor in your wedding you had
strong thoughts about this right off the bat not Camille you can't cam I love Camille we love her growth but she's
going to [ __ ] your husband she might there's always a possibility that she will sleep with your husband there the
possibility is never zero true but it's never zero even if she's not the Made of
Honor true but I'm not going to invite her like all up in there do you think that maybe it would like deter her from
being that person with your husband C Camille strikes me as like matrimony you say like it's just I don't know so I
think Crystal maybe cuz she seems like she's Scrappy she's going to get you if if [ __ ] goes a ride during that day
she's going to be the one that goes up to your wedding planner and is like listen
[ __ ] my girl needs this right now and you're going to go get it done what about Meredith who would liketh do it
kindly I'd rather crystal in for the drama I love the drama Dr I thought Crystal at first too for those very
reasons but now I'm thinking what about Justine because she is calm cool and collected diplomatic diplomatic yeah
very diplomatic like she's the I mean she's the one rooting for Nancy which is quite a choice yeah it's true but she
looks at all sides of things so she could give you the full picture but did she sometime well
yeah and at the end she had this moment where she's like I'm going to really reassess how I it's true approach people
yeah so maybe not Justin so who's final verdict Meredith or Crystal I think Meredith you Crystal she's going like
Crystal going to flip a table and get do you want that your on your wedding day yeah let's go again if you guys can see
the look on her face right now she like yeah let's go behind the scenes that's the thing I want it behind the I want
her flipping tables to get stuff done for me and then walking out and being like hello there is one thing that
happens at your wedding that's absolutely insane so if it's Crystal flipping a table for me that's very
Teresa Jude so let's go I got to go Crystal now you got to go Crystal but I see Meredith there you go okay wait can
I just ask a question yeah was Elena that for your wedding flip a table flip the table
crazy no but during the bustling of my dress people were arguing and Elena came in there and she said step aside [ __ ]
I got this and one lady was like no I know how to do it and she looked at her and that girl just backed her she pulled
a crystal she pulled a little bit of a crystal and my bustle was perfect it worked cuz I was like I'll do it she was
like I watched a tutorial on how to do it the lady showed me I got it I got this [ __ ] and they let me do it I was
fully confident that she would flip a table if she is kind of like a crystal yeah oh alen is a crystal actually real
quick moment who who would you be you would be Crystal who would you be Sheena like who do you think you are who
do you think you are who do you think you are um I don't know really who do you think
I am who do I think you have elements of Meredith cuz you get [ __ ] done I do get
[ __ ] done yeah and you do it in like a way I mean I don't know if my family would agree
with but thank you you actually hold them they'd be like yeah like Mom momes done and she does it in a good way yeah
and you're I think I am a Camille I I will not [ __ ] your husband I swear I swear I swear but like that good
Southern Girl flirty energy we always say that you have like a Southern bell inside of you and there's this like old
sness to you that just like rung out from Camile for me very true I get that a lot all the nice parts than you yeah
not the [ __ ] your husband Parts not the [ __ ] your husband part I like that we
all have a person yeah yeah okay most likely to cry at a romcom Camille Justine I was gonna say Justin
you think Justine why yeah she's going through she's going through a lot really people are really
mean to her yeah she needs to let It Out rough time at home yeah though I like I
was super impressed with the way that she handled like everything that went down with her mother-in-law her
mother-in-law was always so snarky and she still was like no I want my son to have a a relationship she held it
together so maybe not maybe Camille but I found Camille to be like really smart about how she handled herself and things
around her she had a soft side to her she'd do it in the privacy of her own home not in front of others yeah AG
greated I could see that I'm glad you brought that up about um Justine's mother-in-law cuz I was like I hate you
like you're really mean and go away she was really she was awful yeah it wasn't cool and then didn't Chris wait chryst
told she's like in here lady yeah is just not okay yeah stop being a dick that's friendship right there that's
friendship after she was horrible yeah but that's such like I can say whatever I want to you
because we're besties because you're my family but not her to but I'll ride at dawn for you like yeah yeah okay because
it was the 88s who's going to be the biggest fan of the hairbands H I think Meredith I could see maredith and
Crystal yeah top two right there cuz I think like back when Meredith was like working at the club I feel like I could
see her performing to the hairband my go like she could she could Pour some sugar
on me 100% right I would I think my vote is for Crystal really I see both I agree I
could see both of them being down for like poison and like Molly Su yeah yes I could absolutely see this hair
everywhere like all the hairspray see that yes yeah all right and last but not least who does the best
Madonna impression Camille Camille Camille yeah easy ultimate right there yes that was a lot of fun I love talking
about that with you guys that was really nice anytime we can talk about things like this like a book club audio book
club any kind of book club I'm into it can I get can I send you guys another title yes yes so while I was listening
to this title I saw that they had a CT of thorns and Roses been recommended to me a lot that book series is incredible
so listen to this title they have it on Audible it's amazing I feel like the fantasy element of that too like on
Audible would be really fun to listen to I bet the voices are really good um so yeah so I think that you guys should
listen to it I actually read the book but I'm so curious to know how they are going to approach it with the voices the
voice actors but I will probably go home and start that one tonight hell yeah I love that I would definitely listen to
that oh yeah can we can we regroup in like a couple weeks and do this for do like a like a straight up book club I
love that idea I'm in I'm always for a book club let go three book club I'm in do you have an audible
recommendation over there bro uh I do actually I love love love love audible big audible G they're sick nasty they're
sick I really mean it I don't call just anything sick nasty true she do she really does really don't so I started
listening to um Needful Things by Stephen King o and it's narrated by my guy Steven as well I love when the title
is narrated by the author fun Stephen King does a great narration too yeah only he can do it the way that
he needs to be I mean that checks it's true yeah I love that I love that listen my recommendation is um murder your
employer I love that it's a really good title okay yep and one of the narrators is Neil Patrick Harris so I who wouldn't

did Jeremy and ren they're really good and they're amazing love that and um Sophie is from New Orleans so she has
that perfect little Louisiana accent in there like it's got that good little like just a hint of it in there they did
a great job certain words it comes out and I'm like oh Orleans love that but yeah you can listen to that if you want
and the butcher game will be out on Audi book so same in September and I guess you'll just have to wait and see about
that amazing but you can pre-order that one where too on Audible do on Audible on a so do it do it now it'll be sick
