There is one more theory in the murder of Joyce Leage that didn't make it into the episode. Not because we've ruled it
out, but because we are just now uncovering more about it. I always say just because the episode is over doesn't
mean that our reporting is. So, this is theory number seven, the Jolly Jay's theory. So, early on in their
investigation, when Joyce was still just considered a missing person, detectives
noticed something in her letter. She had told her parents that she applied for a
job at this place called Jolly Jay's Cafe in Pullman. Joyce even said that she had talked to the manager there who
basically promised her a job because other waitresses were quitting. So officers went to go talk to this Jolly
Jay's manager, a guy named Jim. But then they get there and Jim's like, "Nope, don't know Joyce." Investigators even
showed him Joyce's photo and he was like, "Still?" Nope. Never talked to her, never seen her before. Now, he
agreed to check his files to see if he had a job application from Joyce Leage, and he said, "Nope, sure didn't." Now,
that would be a pretty weird thing to lie about if what Joyce told her parents in her letter was true, don't you think?
I mean, the officer who interviewed him wrote in his notes that he thought Jim was lying. And later on, a friend of
Joyce's all but confirmed it. She told police that she herself worked at Jolly Jay's and personally introduced Joyce to
Jim and that they spent an hour together in his office. This friend was certain that Joyce filled out a job application
while she was in there. Now, you want to know what's really interesting? Jim also
happened to live right where Joyce's car had been abandoned. So, remember how her
car was found outside on Opal Street? The exact address was 1704 Opal? Well, according to police records, Jim lived
at 1708 Opal. And get this, just two months after Joyce went missing, there was a drug raid at Jim's house. And
there's something about this that stands out to me because it's like sprinkled throughout the files, just like talks of
raids or people in Joyce's circle who may have been confidential informants. Remember, she thought Mark from her
meditation group was one. And speaking of said meditation group and Jim during a different interaction with law
enforcement that wasn't related to Joyce, Jim listed his address as 400 Howard. I don't know if that sounds
familiar, but that's where the meditation group lived. So, was Jim connected to them? Did Joyce know
something that she wasn't supposed to? Why would Jim lie to police saying that he never met Joyce when he clearly had
if he had nothing to hide? This is not the end of the road. Looking into this has opened a weird Pandora's box that
has wild connections. So, our reporter M and I are still digging. But until then,

After our investigation was finished, one more theory surfaced.

Police interviewed the manager of Jolly J's Cafe after Joyce LePage disappeared because Joyce had written home saying she'd interviewed there and was expecting a job. But the manager claimed he'd never even met her. Later, another witness directly contradicted that statement.

As we continued reporting, we uncovered even more connections involving Joyce's abandoned car, the meditation group, and addresses that appear repeatedly throughout the case file.

This investigation is still ongoing, and we're continuing to dig.
