More than 15 years after Brittany McGlone’s murder, investigators made an arrest.

In 2022, Chad Carr was taken into custody for capital murder. According to investigators, he didn’t appear surprised. Around that time, he also began changing parts of his story about whether he had been inside the home.

For Brittany’s family, the arrest brought a wave of hope — a sense that the case was finally moving forward.

But in Texas, an arrest is only one step. The case still had to go before a grand jury.

After reviewing the evidence over the course of about 90 days, the grand jury returned a no bill — meaning Chad Carr would not be indicted, and the case would not go to trial.
