4 days after Joan Webster vanished, her wallet turned up in a place known as like a dump ground, sometimes even for
dumping bodies. Joan Webster was a 25-year-old Harvard grad student who flew into Boston the
Saturday after Thanksgiving back in 1981. Within a few days, her mom knew something was wrong because Joan had
missed class. Her dorm room looked untouched as if she had never even made it back.
And then, a fisherman called Joan's dad's office because he'd found Joan's wallet on the riverbank about 6 mi from
Logan Airport in the opposite direction of where she should have been headed. Now, when police go to the scene, they
also find her red leather pocketbook nearby. And that marsh was like already known as a bit of a dumping ground. So,
investigators wondered if somebody maybe threw her belongings from a moving car on the highway that was overhead, which
meant that at that point Joan could be anywhere. But like, help me out. What other possibilities could there be? If
she planned to go straight to campus from the airport, how did her wallet end up in a marsh miles away in the wrong
direction?
