Imagine being so annoyed by your roommate that you secretly move into an abandoned dorm. Well, that is exactly
what 21-year-old Joyce Leage did during the summer of 1971. Joyce was taking summer classes at Washington State
University, but she wasn't actually sleeping at the apartment that she was renting. In a letter to one of her
friends, Joyce wrote that she had discovered a dorm on campus, Stevens Hall, and it was closed for renovations
over the summer. So, she just moved right in. Not officially, though. This was like very much on the down low, but
she wrote that she had taken over the building. She was sleeping there, showering there, played the piano in the
lobby, even found a hidden place to park when campus police were there and like so they couldn't see her. She called it
her private hideway. Friends had warned her that she would get caught and someone clearly knew that they could
find her there. One day after Joyce was last seen alive, police were called to Stevens Hall because someone had cut a
5-ft section of carpet out of the floor. And Joyce's body was later found wrapped
