it means the world to me to know that um he can answer all the questions that I have that that some of my family members
have you know United States had a death penalty for juveniles when he was sentenced and if he had only been a
little older he could have gotten the death penalty that could have been carried out and I always I'm so thankful
that didn't happen that he's not dead that he's here that he's alive and and that he can
answer me it was such a healing thing for me to meet with him that first time and to have this back and forth where
he'd say something and i' you know question it he has been incredibly courageous and honest with me even when
it puts him in a bad light that first meeting sometimes before a particularly difficult you know detail that he was
revealing he'd asked me you know are are you okay you know this is going to be hard to hear do you want to hear this he
was very sensitive to how you know I might react to some of the you know horrific uh details of what he
did you know since I've been visiting him I've gotten to know that he's very ashamed of what he did he's ashamed of
the person he was he's ashamed of that 16-year-old boy who was so stupid who was stupid enough to get a gun now he
says he hates guns you know he he sees the violence and the grief that that they spread um and the trouble that that
they caused for everyone the the shooter and the victim
