I did my psychiatric training at NYU and bellw I spent a lot of time in the emergency room of bellev and the most
exciting the way the sickest psychiatric patients were the ones that were being brought in by the police uh they had the
most incredible backstories and had the most extreme symptoms and trying to figure out what was going on with them
what had caused them to get to that particular Point became fascinating and as a result I started working on the
prison Ward at Bellevue and continued this this love for the kind of the investigative process of trying to
understand why someone commits a crime why someone gets to a point in their life where taking this drastic action
made a lot of sense and basically I'm doing a an investigation to try to figure out what someone's mental state
was at some moment in the past when some something terrible happened and then my
whole process becomes to try to unearth the truth and so I review documents I interview the individual I'll interview
their family members eyewitnesses you know I'll I'll review police documentation prior medical records to
try to recreate a a 360 view of the individual's mind at that moment in time and if I can do that then I can try to
answer that question why they killed a person why they did something terrible and that that process is f fascinating
