In 2004, convicted armed robber Alfie Gay claimed he knew who killed Karmein Chan. He named Norman Leung Lee, known as “Normie.”
Gay alleged that Lee lived near an early attack site, worked near Tullamarine Airport — an area investigators focused on — and had a fixation on school uniforms.
But here’s what’s important:
Norman Lee was never charged in connection to the Mr. Cruel case. Police have never officially named him as the offender.
He died in 1992 during a police chase.
After that, the Mr. Cruel Attacks attacks stopped.
