"48 Hours" visits American murder victim's Seoul apartment | Forensic Files

[Music] it's the first time of course that we've been inside this apartment and getting a
sense of how this all played out it's important and where's the bedroom where Carolyn's body
I believe it's back here there was press right here just filming in this room it was totally in disarray
there was a smaller kind of a twin sized bed pushed up against that wall and it was
described that there was blood spatter on the wall in here and that Carolyn was at least partially covered by a quilt
right this was just a blood bath in here from the reports when investigators came
into this room it was a mess a battle had gone on there was blood spatter on the walls and things but what also
struck them is that things had been tossed about but there are other parts of this apartment Chris that were not
disturbed that it just seemed suspicious and it suggested to them that this was a
staged robbery gone bad to try to create a reason why Carolyn had been killed it's always important to be at the death
scene because what what cops are looking for is signs of a struggle and there were definitely signs she had defensive
wounds on her hand the fact that the door is unlocked suggests that whoever entered is someone that that she may
have known and the fact that there wasn't a struggle in other parts of the apartment is also suggestive that this
was a person she knew as opposed to a total stranger Chris what's it like for you to be in here this is the room where
it all started this is where Carolyn was murdered and this is where sort of the mystery starts you know who did it and
what happened it's still been playing out for like 30 years you know the person responsible is still out there
and here we are 30 years later you know halfway across the world trying to look at this trying to look into what
happened you know for all that time we've spent investigating this story finally get in the room this is
fascinating but also a very somber place that this is where Carolyn Abel fought for her life who
lost that battle [Music]
