On October 7, 2024, 38-year-old Christa Gilley was rushed from her home in Houston, Texas to a local hospital after her husband, Lee Gilley, called 911 reporting that she was unresponsive. Hours later, Christa was pronounced dead. She was also nine weeks pregnant. And it quickly became clear that what transpired in the Gilley home was something much darker than appeared on the surface.
Days later, her husband, Lee Gilley, was charged with capital murder in connection with the deaths of Christa and her unborn child. But that’s not where this story ends.
In May 2026, just weeks before his trial was set to begin in Harris County, Texas, authorities say Lee Gilley cut off his ankle monitor, left the United States, and traveled to Italy using allegedly forged identification documents. Now, an international legal battle is unfolding while Christa’s family continues their fight for justice.
In this episode, Crime Junkie reporter Briana Whitney examines the death of Christa Bauer Gilley, a respected physical therapist, devoted mother of two, and beloved friend whose case has drawn national attention.
You’ll hear the events surrounding October 7–8, 2024 in Houston, Texas, the medical findings that changed the direction of the investigation, allegations uncovered during the criminal case against Lee Gilley, the evidence prosecutors planned to present at trial, and the shocking international developments that unfolded while the case was awaiting trial.
And this case is far from over. This episode also explores the ongoing criminal proceedings in Harris County, Texas, the impact of Christa’s death on her family and friends, the growing movement demanding justice in her name, and the unanswered questions that remain as the legal process continues. -------- Follow Crime Junkie: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/crimejunkiepodcast Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CrimeJunkiePodcast/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/CrimeJunkiePod Crime Junkie is created and hosted by Ashley Flowers.
