In this case, there wasn't just one suspect. After 17-year-old Stephanie Casberg was murdered in 1969, police
chased down lead after lead, and almost every direction pointed to someone different. For a split second, there was
her father. Rumors spread that he had found out about her secret boyfriend and killed her. Police even asked him
directly, and he responded by laughing and said if he had done it, they would have never found her, which is not a
normal answer in my opinion. But as weird as that response was, her dad isn't the strongest suspect in my mind.
In fact, he isn't considered a suspect at all. There were also the men from her workplace, like a cook named Michael
Bartelt. Michael told police he saw Stephanie leave that night, but then changed his story years later, and said
he probably wasn't even there. And right after she was killed, he left the state
and lied to police about where he went. Then came a pretty dark lead about a man
named Wilbert Macky. His own son claimed that he was a serial killer who forced his daughter to help him dispose of a
body near Route 23, which is one of the places where Stephanie's remains were found. Every lead felt possible at one
point, but some were totally disproven, and the others couldn't be proven definitively. And to this day, no one
