More than 20 years after 19-year-old Carmen Van Huss was murdered, investigators finally sent DNA evidence for advanced testing, hoping for a breakthrough.
Instead, the results made no sense. The lab results indicated the DNA belonged to a European woman, when the profile was supposed to come from semen recovered during Carmen's autopsy. Investigators later believed Carmen's own DNA had likely been sent for testing by mistake.
When officials refused to pay for another test, the investigation reached another major roadblock.
