hey Don retired Bard County detective Don Brown comes to Bunny and Bob leighton's home every year on March 20th
thanks for coming I really appreciate this the last day of Amy gall's life every year he comes on the anniversary
and spends that evening with us father God father we love you it's so good to see Don again Lord he helps Amy's mother
and her stepfather deal with the memories amen it is without question in Bard County's most notorious unsolved
case Dom was the lead investigator on the case back in 1994 I always question myself did I miss
something on the night of the murder a massed intruder ambushed Bunny and Bob inside their home viciously stabbing
them Amy arrived later and was attacked in the driveway that's where uh Amy ran out of badly wounded and losing blood
Amy ran for help and Came Upon two people in a parked car Amy walked up she said help me I've been stabbed
and then she collapsed here the attacker is believed to have jumped a fence and headed in the direction of the ocean and
did you search or find the mask or gloves did he drop anything along the way it was searched by a another of
people and uh found nothing to this day the case remains un solved Don Brown has
long since retired but that hasn't stopped his obsession with the killer or Killers who got away there's no such
thing as a perfect crime something was there either got destroyed or it's been overlooked

Don Brown, now a retired detective from the Brevard County Sheriff's Office in Florida, was the lead investigator in the Amy Gellert murder over 20 years ago. He tells "48 Hours" about what happened the night of Gellert's murder and how the killer got away.
