I'm Tracy Smith in a rainy California you might be able to hear the rain on the roof hopefully you can still hear me
so if you're a regular viewer of 48 Hours you know that we usually end our shows with the verdict and the family's
reaction but this time we're going to try something a little different we're going to show you what happens long
after the jurors have gone home we're going to talk about Parole in this case a man was convicted of murder and
sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole and now more than 20 years have passed and he's up for
parole so the question is should it be granted well here you have the victim's daughters who say absolutely not this
guy should stay in prison and they're doing everything in their power to keep him there but for them that means going
to parole hearings and they say it's like reliving their mother's murder over and over again every time they have to
go to one of these hearings in a sense they say it's like they're serving a life sentence because they can never get
Beyond this case they feel like it certainly wasn't over with the conviction this is still haunting them
more than 20 years later on the other side you have a Man Behind Bars who we've spoken to who says listen parole
is the law and not only that he's been a model prisoner and he says it's his time
to get out that he served more than 20 years and now he deserves to be released so the question is when is enough
punishment enough and how does the parole board decide it's a fascinating subject that we rarely look into and
we're going to this week we hope you'll join us

In this week's "48 Hours," correspondent Tracy Smith looks into the case of Dennis Ott -- a man convicted of killing his wife in 1992 and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
