when I was 13 I was diagnosed with systemic lupus which was very bad and it settled into my kidneys my parents were
told I had less than a year to live that it was so severe I was given the chemo I
lost all my hair I would look out the window and see all the kids playing wanting to go out so bad but I couldn't
I think the only way I knew I was better is because I could leave the house I was
past the lupus stage that wasn't going to define me I went to my doctor and he found a lump
in my breast it was cancer I heard the word chemo I got sick to my stomach the memories of having chemo
just just scared being overwhelmed me as bad as it was Scott made it as easy as he could for me
when I took hemo I had one key mall to go and Scott's like no you have eight more I'm like no I have one more and
when I get through this one I have one more because if I thought it's a big picture of eight more of this like I
just I wouldn't do it but knowing I had one I could do it so that's the way I got through those nine
months it's just taking it one day at a time

In 1978, Kathy Kleiner was severely beaten by Ted Bundy after he broke into her room at the Chi Omega sorority house at Florida State University. In the scheme of her life, though, that attack is only part of her survival story.
