Hannah Petty is getting sick. She's a young mother and no one seems to know what's wrong with her. She is losing
weight and she's getting weaker and weaker. When she finally gets an x-ray, her body lights up like a Christmas
tree. Turns out someone's been poisoning Hannah with lead and whoever it is, they're probably pretty close to her.
Some of the lead inside Hannah looked like shards, but other pieces looked like tiny discs. Something that lead
investigator thought could easily be created with a simple hole punch. This is the type of lead that Brian had
access to. The lead that we recovered from the office was very thin. It would be thin enough that it could be shaved
or whatever. One of the things I learned covering this case is that lead is pretty readily available and also comes
in a lot of different forms. And in this case, the lead was on sort of these sheets. So, imagine the bendability of a
pipe cleaner, um, but something close to wallpaper sheets, almost a wallpaper. But there's
sort of a thick layer on top that is lead. You can scrape it off with a knife, you can roll it around in your
finger and you can understand why investigators felt that it would also be really, really easy to put it into
capsules and hide it. I have to stress that they never found the capsules. This is their theory as to how Hannah was
poisoned by lead.
