the morning of Carol's Death Steve picked me up for coffee as he often did when we got to the coffee house I I
noted that his bicycle was in the car and I had never seen it in the car before and he saw me glance at the bike
and he said he said uh I decided to go for a bike ride tonight and I I said okay I didn't really think a whole lot
of it it was unusual for him to go for a bike ride he usually went for a run or a
hike he dropped me off off at my house he went to work and I didn't see him or hear from him all day around 8:00 that
night I got a call from Charlotte and she was looking for her dad and she asked if he was with me and
I said no he's not with me and if he was you'd be able to reach him because he always has his phone with him and she
said okay that's weird we were supposed to have dinner together and he's not here I said well well you know he said
he was going on this bike ride and maybe he's out somewhere so she said okay I called Steve's phone left a message said
Charlotte's looking for you where are you and then about 10:00 at night the phone rang and um and
it was Steve and he was apologizing he said I'm sorry I worried everybody it was this crazy ride I'm I'm just done
with the ride I think he said his his battery had died and he' just put a new battery in his phone the next thing I
knew the phone was ringing it was about midnight I was sound asleep and he he said um sorry to call you so
late I just found out Carol is dead I think those were his words Carol is dead
