It was an auditorium almost the same as this, you know, at Coven Garden at the Royal Opera House and she was in the
royal box say up there somewhere and she was sitting with Prince Charles. I was in the wings over there and at a certain
point I said now to her and she got up and moved quietly away and he was still looking at the stage think she's
probably gone to the L or something. Anyway, I came out onto the stage. This music started Billy Joe's Uptown
Girl and I did these big jumps and things which they were applauding and everything. I thought you wait, you just
wait because nobody knew. And I finished and they were still clapping. And I went
bubba and she walked out for eight counts like this and then stopped, looked at the audience beautifully. And
there was a gasp from the audience of 2,500 people who took an intake of breath all at the same time. They were
speechless. They went and she was on fire. I mean, she took it, embraced as if she'd been doing it for hundreds of
years. And then we did a sort of upmanship thing. I'd do a pirouette like that. She'd push me down like that, then
kick over my leg like that and walk away like that. You see? Then she'd do something, a jazz turn or one of these
things. And I'd look at her and I go, "All right, go on then." And not do anything. And then I got to the corner
over here of the stage and I lifted her with one hand under her leg here. She did a layout
like that, holding on to my shoulder and was laughing as I ran across the stage.
And the finale bit was kicks, of course, a kick line. I took a hand like this and
we did and that was the finish of the dance. We did a puette and I bowed to her and it they just went absolutely
wild. And then we came on the first curtain call, second, they wouldn't stop. Eight curtain calls later and I
said, "You have to p bow to the royal box." And she said, "I'm not bowing to him. He's my hobby." All under our
breath, you see. And so I made a turn and bow and we ran off. And she said, "Let's do it again. Let's do it again."
So they wouldn't let us go. And I said, "No, leave them wanting more.
