An Ashley-Bait Email Tip #crimejunkie | Forensic Files

Back in March 2023, someone emailed me and told me to watch this specific case closely as it unfolded. Now, just weeks
before this email came in, a fire had ripped through a Chicago home, killing a mother and her three kids. Now, the
husband, the kid's father, was a Chicago firefighter on duty that night. The city
mourned. The department rallied. The case was ruled undetermined and suspended by August that same year. But
while many people were grieving this senseless loss, someone in the Chicago area was emailing me and the tip was
vague, but they told me basically to just pay attention to the story as it unfolds because though it looks like a
tragic accident on the surface, there might be more if I dug deeper. So I waited, I watched, and honestly for a
while nothing happened. So like just to be sure, I asked one of our reporters to
dig into this story, talk to the family, pull records, see if there was actually
a there there. And the very first thing she found, the woman who died alongside her kids was planning to take those same
kids and leave her husband on March 8th. And the fire that killed them happened the night before. We had to keep digging
from there. And you won't believe everything we found. All because of that one tip that came in.
