48 Hours has an exclusive interview with a crime scene investigator who was shot
in broad daylight and left for dead in a Minneapolis parking lot Nicole Nikki lenway was on her way to pick up her
child when she was attacked here's an early look at her first TV interview with Aaron morard for this week's 48
Hours on April 20th 2022 Emily Clancy was driving home from dinner with friends I stopped right here at this
intersection when something across the street caught her attention I saw a person run up to another person and then
I heard two bangs and that other person collapsed when the light changed Emily sped through the intersection and pulled
up next to the victim I opened the door I said are you okay and she said no I've
been shot the victim was 33-year-old Nicole Nikki lenway a crime scene investigator for the Minneapolis Police
she was on her way to pick up her 5y yold son when she was shot she was in a lot of pain she was having a hard time
breathing where's the victim who's shot Emily did her best to help Nikki until First Responders arrived she was scared
really scared whoever did that know as she was coming to pick up her kid I just looked her in the eyes and I said Nikki
we got this we got this just stay with me okay so we've got EMS coming right now Emily told believes what she thought
had happened it maybe looked like a robbery or something there was so fast could you tell the gender was it male or
female so I thought it was male take it to the hospital Nikki lost Consciousness
but she recovered and gave police this description I was very sure it was a female shooter you do work for the
police department did you think it might have something to do with work you know
I know a lot of people ask me that I knew that this could happen but I didn't want to believe it
would wow Aaron joins us now Aaron W so can I first just can we first talk about
Emily Clancy how many people when you see a shooting drive straight to it to help the person most people would duck
or go the other way so I just have to give a bit of a shout out to Emily Clancy because what an make because of
her Nikki is alive no question so Nikki was on her way to pick up her Sony old son 5-year-old son and we heard someone
there say that whoever did this knew she was going to pick up her son so how quickly did police begin to look at her
ex-boyfriend well realize she was though this forensic scientist so they first had to look at the fact that maybe it
was connected to work with the police department or a robbery gone wrong but it looked very personal the problem was
he was inside the center he had an airtight Alibi when they look at it no they find a very unlikely suspect right
yeah well they were saying it's a female shooter which is a Twist in this case Nikki was sure of that uh Emily thought
it was a guy cuz it's all in black but Nikki's sense was even though you couldn't see hair or anything that it
was a woman w war you know we will be watching absolutely as always thank you thank you very much you can see Erin's
